What’s behind the stability of Kapital Bank’s mobile app? Alihan Damirov, Head of the DevOps Center of Excellence at Kapital Bank OJSC, shared insights on their implementation of the Dynatrace application monitoring platform and the results it delivered.
What challenges did Kapital Bank's IT team face?
Kapital Bank needed a monitoring system that could ensure the stability of its applications and help resolve issues proactively — ideally, before they reached the end user. The goal was to not only support ongoing operations but also to strengthen future development. As a leading financial institution, releasing an unstable or underperforming product was simply not an option.
Why Dynatrace stood out for existing applications
Before adopting Dynatrace, we relied heavily on open-source tools and built custom modules ourselves. But that approach didn’t meet our expectations or requirements. As we evaluated enterprise-grade monitoring solutions, we ruled out many due to specific limitations. Thanks to our integrator Ultra Technologies and distributor BAKOTECH, we were able to test and deploy a solution that met all our needs.
Dynatrace proved to be the best fit based on these key factors: ● Ability to work beyond the cloud: Azerbaijani law requires user data to be stored on-premises. Fully cloud-based solutions didn’t meet this requirement. ● AI-powered monitoring: Dynatrace’s Davis® AI automatically learns the normal behavior of application services and flags anomalies, which expands monitoring convenience. In banking, app usage can vary wildly throughout the day, and this AI-driven optimization helps keep services consistently stable. ● Full infrastructure monitoring: Issues often originate in areas not immediately obvious. With Dynatrace, we gained end-to-end visibility and the ability to trace issues to their true root causes — even deep within our systems.
One major highlight: Dynatrace was deployed and fully operational in just four days.
How Dynatrace Supported Our Development Process
ВAfter implementing Dynatrace, we launched a joint project with the national tax service to support VAT returns. One major challenge was the unpredictability of the app's load. Before going live, we needed full confidence that the infrastructure could handle a potentially massive number of users.
Dynatrace’s integration with testing tools proved essential. Developers conducted end-to-end testing, running each service in a test environment while Dynatrace tracked performance metrics — highlighting bottlenecks, response time drops, and underperforming components. We resolved potential issues early in the development cycle.
Key improvements since deploying Dynatrace
In a containerized and cloud-first world, a single host may run dozens of apps using various development and testing technologies. Dynatrace helped us reduce the IT team’s workload: OneAgent (Dynatrace’s unified agent) automatically adapts to each application, eliminating the need for manual setup. This dramatically lightens the workload for tech teams. Dynatrace replaces the need for separate monitoring tools for different departments. Everyone now works from the same platform.
